When I lived in Montgomery County, Texas the Rotary Club of Lake Conroe, of which I was a member, became involved in the Honor Flight Program. We sponsored four flights that sent 450 World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., free of charge, to view the World War II Memorial. Most of them had never seen it before. I was extremely proud of our Club’s involvement, and it was one of our Club’s proudest achievements. We had huge send offs for the veterans that involved the communities in Montgomery County including Conroe, The Woodlands, and Montgomery. Those were highly emotional events that the veterans and communities will never forget!

The Basin’s First Honor Flight has extended the invitation to include Vietnam, Korean, and other war veterans.

Below is a story by Matt Rist of CBS 7. I am very glad that Mike Barker is going as one representative for those of us who are Vietnam Veterans. I am sure that it will be an experience of a lifetime for him, and that he will have interesting stories to report.

Inaugural Honor Flight Planning Begins

I sincerely hope that you will be involved in some way in supporting the Permian Basin’s Honor Flight(s).

I would enjoy being chosen to go to Washington D. C. sometime in September. I hope you might consider me in your selections. No Further Comment at this time.
